About the Project
The Royal Bournemouth Hospital has seen significant expansion in recent years and has been designated as one of Dorset’s major hospitals. We successfully completed a project at RBH to expand the Mortuary in line with the hospital’s growing demands.
The following key activities were undertaken:
Heating Systems, Ventilation & HVAC: Full installation of extraction, ventilation, heating and air conditioning systems
including all associated plumbing, pipework and ducting.
Plumbing & Drainage: Installation of new plumbing, drainage and sanitaryware. Maintenance and repair of existing.
Mortuary: Works in connection with the Mortuary refridgeration.
Power Distribution & Lighting: Full electrical installation and energy efficient LED lighting including emergency power and lighting.
Fire Protection Systems: Installation of compliant fire doors, alarms, and detection systems.
Gas: Medical gas installation.
Security: Installation of secure access controls, CCTV and nurse call systems.
Demolition & Extension: Existing layouts were reconfigured and extended which included the safe removal of asbestos containing materials. Installation of new stud walls, partitions and ceilings.
Finishes: New decorations and anti-slip vinyl floor coverings throughout. Courtyard landscaping.
Carpentry: Bespoke shelving, installation of storage units and worktops.
General Maintenance: Routine, ongoing maintenance and repairs of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
Working within a live healthcare environment required a carefully phased approach to minimise disruption to hospital operations.
The completed upgrades have significantly improved capacity, operational efficiency and the overall experience for patients, staff, and visitors. By increasing the number of inpatient beds, the project has enhanced patient flow and ensured the hospital is better equipped to meet current and future service demands.
